DuPont™ Tyvek® Medical Packaging Transition Project (MPTP) The DuPont™ Tyvek® Medical Packaging Transition Project, known as the MPTP, includes a systematic method for generating data to prove that the Tyvek® produced on the new lines is functionally equivalent in performance to the Tyvek® you purchase today.

Is Tyvek biocompatible?

Biocompatibility, Pharmacopeia, and Bioburden – DuPont has performed industry-standard testing to demonstrate that the new Tyvek material passes all aspects. The list below demonstrates the testing performed and the results obtained.

Can Tyvek be sterilized?

Unlike medical-grade papers and films, Tyvek® is compatible with all of the most commonly used sterilization methods, including: Ethylene Oxide (EO) Radiation (Gamma and electron beam) Steam under controlled conditions.

What is the pore size of Tyvek?

Tyvek® fabric offers an inherent barrier against particles (down to 1.0 micron in size).

Is Tyvek porous?

Tyvek® 1073B, as seen in the chart below, has an LRV of 5 and is the best porous substrate available for medical packaging.

Can you autoclave Tyvek?

The soft bonded grade of Tyvek® fabric used in PPE is autoclavable using steam sterilization under well-controlled conditions (250°F to 260°F [121°C to 127°C] at 30 psi [207 kPa] for 30 minutes) using commercial equipment and following consensus-based industry standard practices.

What is Tyvek in sterilization?

Compatible sterilization methods include ethylene oxide (EtO), gamma, e-beam, steam (under controlled conditions), and plasma/hydrogen peroxide. Tyvek® is engineered to enable sterilant gases and steam to penetrate and escape quickly.

Are there different grades of Tyvek?

Tyvek® is available in two structures: “hard” (paper-like) and “soft” (fabric-like). Styles beginning with a 10 are “hard” and styles beginning with 14 or 16 are soft. Tyvek® is naturally white—the GE brightness of Tyvek® is 94.1 with no fillers or brightening agents.

Tyvek® is available in both a hard structure, used for HomeWrap envelopes and medical packaging applications, and a soft structure, fabric-like finish used for protective apparel and consumer applications.
