Do I need special bolts for headers?
Most headers with 1/4-inch or 5/16-inch thick flanges will use bolts with a 3/4-inch UHL, while 3/8-inch thick flanges normally require bolts with a 1-inch UHL.

Can I reuse my header bolts?

The stock header bolts can be reused many times. As long as the threads look good and your not wanting to spend the coin on new ones go for it.
Are you supposed to put Loctite on header bolts?
NO! Do not put red Loctite on your header bolts! Bad deal all around! Depending on the gaskets you used, you may have to tighten them numerous times as the gasket takes a set.
Should you use anti seize on header bolts?
If you are reusing exhaust manifold bolts (which we don’t recommend), apply a metal fortified anti-seize to your manifold bolts. If you’ve just removed the broken bolts and ready to complete the repair, chase the threads clean and use fresh OEM bolts for best results.

Why do exhaust bolts break?
That rapid heat causes the exhaust manifold material to expand, which puts a tremendous strain on the bolts and/or studs holding the manifolds to the cylinder heads. After hundreds of expansion and contraction cycles, the studs or bolts finally fail.
Should you replace exhaust manifold bolts?
In addition, we recommend replacing all of the bolts with OEM mounting bolts or studs. When you replace the manifold with a new one, it will be prone to the same warping that broke the bolt originally – so at the very least, be sure to replace all of the bolts with OEM mounting bolts or studs.
