Is carbon assembly paste necessary?
Answer: Carbon assembly paste is really helpful in preventing damage from over torqueing components. Tiny pieces of glass suspended in a gel help to increase friction at the component mating surfaces. This means that it takes less compressive force to hold the component in place.
What is carbon assembly paste made of?
This is made from natural oils (petroleum-based ones are common in carbon paste), which we are assured are all non-toxic and readily biodegradable. Note that the use of carbon paste does not mean you can tighten bolts to lower-than-recommended torques.
Can you use regular grease on carbon?
No grease on carbon posts. Grease contains certain minerals that can attack clear coats, can penetrate the resin matrix and could cause swelling of the composite laminate.

Is silicone grease safe for carbon fiber?
Kerry Irons said: Personally, I would not hesitate to put silicone grease on CF, because silicones are known for being quite inert to petroleum-based products. This is what was recommended to me from IRD via a LBS recently regarding a carbon seatpost.
Do you need carbon paste for seat post?
From what I’ve read, carbon assembly paste is generally recommended for carbon on carbon seat posts and also stems to carbon handlebars. The carbon assembly paste seems to hold the seat post in place great, I don’t have to overtighten the seat post clamp bolt at all and the seat has never slipped.
What grease is safe for carbon fiber?
Finish line ceramic grease: “It is safe. As is our Premium Teflon Grease” to use where it can contact carbon fiber parts.
Can you use wd40 on carbon fiber?
