What is BSPP thread type?
BSPP (British Standard Parallel Pipe) is most popular in the UK, Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. It is a parallel thread fitting that uses a bonded seal ring to do the sealing.
Is BSPP the same as BSP?
BSP stands for British Standard Pipe technical standards. BSP connection includes two types of threads, one is BSPP which can be straight or parallel; the other one is BSPT, which is tapered. The thread pitch and thread angle is the same 55 degree. BSP is not the same as BSPP.
Can you thread BSPP into NPT?
NPT/NPS and BSP threads are not compatible due to the differences in their thread forms, and not just the fact that most sizes have a different pitch.
Are BSPP and G threads the same?
BSPP = British Standard Pipe Parallel, cylindrical pipe thread with 55°apex angle. British parallel threads are often referred to as “G” threads, the two types of thread are the same parallel straight, the threads are measured in threads per inch. Therefore, BSPP is the same as G.
What standard is BSPP?
1) British Standard Pipe Parallel (BSPP)
Size | Nominal Size (in) | Actual Major Thread Size (mm) |
---|---|---|
2 | 1/8 | 9.728 – 28 |
4 | 1/4 | 13.157 – 19 |
6 | 3/8 | 16.662 – 19 |
8 | 1/2 | 20.955 – 14 |
Can BSP fit BSPT?
BSPT & BSPP Male and Female Fittings British Standard Pipe threads are similar in function to NPT threads, but are generally not interchangeable. BSPT male threads seal against threads of fixed BSPT female.
How do I know if I have BSP or NPT?
The way to tell the difference between the two is the flank angle. The flank angle for NPT is 60° compared to the BSP tapered which is 55° (this can be verified with a thread gauge). BSP threads are measured in imperial measurements such as 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 etc.
What does G stand for in threads?
Two types of threads are distinguished: Parallel (straight) threads, British Standard Pipe Parallel thread (BSPP; originally also known as British Standard Pipe Fitting thread/BSPF and British Standard Pipe Mechanical thread/BSPM), which have a constant diameter; denoted by the letter G.
Does BSPT fit BSPP?
It is important to note that BSPT (British Standard Pipe – Tapered) can seal into a parallel BSP port, and Metric Tapered threads are capable of sealing into a parallel Metric port.
Is ISO parallel thread the same as BSPP?
ISO metric machine threads should be used instead of pipe threads for mechanical fastenings such as bolts and nuts. BSP (British Standard Pipe) threads, using the Whitworth thread form, have been adopted as the ISO standard for pipe threads, and will hereafter be called out as ISO and not as ESP.
