What is WHIM syndrome?

WHIM syndrome is a rare primary immunodeficiency disorder, which are disorders in which the body’s immune system does not function properly. WHIM is an acronym for some of the characteristic symptoms of the disorder – (w)arts, (h)ypogammaglobulinemia, (i)nfections, and (m)yelokathexis.

What causes Myelokathexis?

Myelokathexis is a condition caused by the accumulation of mature neutrophils in the bone marrow that leads to neutropenia. WHIM-causing genetic defects are traced back to mutations of G protein-coupled chemokine receptor CXCR4 (Hernandez et al., 2003).

Is HPV an immune deficiency?

Infection with human papillomavirus (HPV) is almost universal and eventually asymptomatic, but pathologic infection with HPV is severe, recurrent, and recalcitrant to therapy. It is also an underappreciated manifestation of primary immunodeficiency.
