What time does the music start at Newmarket races?

Newmarket Nights are our Friday evening racing plus music events with the artist taking to the stage at any time from 8pm.

What time do Newmarket Nights finish?

The approximate timings for the concert are 8.30pm – 10.30pm but please note these timings are different for each event and will depend on the Order of Running for the horseraces beforehand. If there is a delay with racing this will mean the concert has a slightly later start time.

Trainers and shorts are widely regarded as unacceptable, although not forbidden in some enclosures or at some meetings. The classic Flat racing attire for men is a collared shirt with trousers and smart shoes.

PREMIER ENCLOSURE/HOSPITALITY AREAS Racegoers are encouraged to dress smartly in the Premier Enclosure. Most would wear smart trousers, a shirt and formal shoes or a dress or trouser suit with a hat or fascinator, but these are not compulsory.

Why is it called the Rowley Mile?

It is named after Charles II’s favourite stallion, Old Rowley. Rowley also became a nickname for the king himself, who had many mistresses. It has been raced on since the 17th century and the grass has been untouched since it was last ploughed on the orders of Oliver Cromwell.
