Where should my ball be when putting?

Where should my ball be when putting?

Your ball should be positioned just forward of the middle of your stance. Determining how close the ball should be to your body is a bit more complicated. It is generally agreed that you should set your putting posture so that your eyes are positioned directly above or just slightly inside of the ball.

Should your head be over the ball when putting?

When you turn your head to look at the hole, it will appear left of its actual position, which can result in a pull for right-handed players. Instead, you should keep your eyes over a spot just inside the ball, a few inches toward your feet.

Do all pros line up putts?

The majority of professional and collegiate golfers use the line on short putts, especially those that are not starting outside the hole. Many of those players don’t use the line on putts with large amounts of break or outside 15-20 feet.

How do pro golfers line up putts?

Once you’ve chosen your ball position, lining up putts comes down to four key things: reading the green; picking your target; lining up the putter face squarely; and correctly aligning your feet and shoulders. After completing these steps, the only thing left to do is focus on speed and making a smooth putting stroke.

Should I forward press when putting?

Dave Stockton (and many other teachers) advocate the use of a forward press because it delofts the putter. There is a theory out there that since most putters actually have 3-4 degrees of loft, you have to counteract that with leaning your hands forward a little bit.

How far should you bring your putter back?

Put one in the ground at the ball, one about 8 inches behind and one about 8 inches ahead. Try to swing your putter with an even rhythm, not going back past the back tee and not going through beyond the front tee.

Should you choke down on a putter?

Gripping down on the putter is also an extremely effective technique for controlling your speed on championship greens. By gripping down on the putter the player reduces the radius of the stroke. Reducing the radius of the stroke reduces the length of the stroke and the distance the ball will roll.
