Do kelpies only bond with one person?

They tend to bond with one person in the family— this comes from their strong loyalty instinct, as opposed to shyness. However, they are cooperative and playful with everyone in the family. Kelpies have great personalities, especially when they have “tasks” to accomplish or animals to herd.

Do kelpies have spots?

The spot can range from a few strands of hair to larger spots. There are a few Kelpies with one or more white paws or a white collar. In the breed standards there is nothing written about how much or how little white may occur on a Kelpie.

The Kelpie is relatively low maintenance when it comes to grooming with their ‘wash and wear coat’. However, for such a short haired dog, Australian Kelpies shed much more than you might think. You’ll need to brush them weekly to keep loose hair under control.

When a kelpie (pup) is in a crate, covered with a towel or sheet so it cannot see out, it feels safe and secure and will go to sleep.

It is safe to give your 8-week old puppy a bath. If he’s not extremely dirty and just needs a gentle wipe down, you can still use a warm washcloth with a very little bit of puppy shampoo or even baking soda and water to help with any puppy odor.

Australian Kelpies were never intended to be simply household pets. Their working behaviors are inappropriate in a normal household setting. Trying to suppress these “hardwired” behaviors, without providing alternate outlets for their high energy level, is difficult-to-impossible.

They may have a total face mask of tan. Plain coloured kelpies can be black; red; blue (grey) and cream or tan. The absence of white is indicative of the Kelpie breed, however some white on chest and toes is permissible.
